Samsung's Transparent Smart Window is one of the most innovative products to be revealed in 2012. It is a transparent full touch TFT (thin-film transistor) LCD featuring a 46-inch viewable area with a resolution of 1366x768 (HD 720p). The Samsung Smart Window has already clinched quite a few awards including the coveted CES (Consumer Electronic Show) 2012 innovation award.
The Smart Window utilizes transparent OLED technology which doesn't require any backlight. Instead the unit uses ambient light as a source of backlight for the display. In addition, OLED technology enables the Samsung Smart Window to achieve higher contrast ratios compared to traditional LED/LCD displays. In low light settings or dark rooms, the screen is illuminated by edge lights.
In essence the Samsung Smart Window is a transparent tablet computing device which provides an additional dimension in terms how humans share and retrieve information. Different widgets and apps afford users to perform various activities and provide infotainment avenues such as access to social media, stocks, weather, internet browsing, media etc. The Smart Window features an energy efficient design that uses natural light for its display. This eliminates the need for using the inbuilt edge lit backlight display during the day. Similarly, the unit can be programmed in such a way that it reflects light during the day using its mirror mode or the virtual blinds. |
